4 Apr 1931 – 15 Aug 2016
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Donna B Cardon left this world to join her Father in Heaven and her eternal companion, Lawrence Boyd Cardon on August 15, 2016. Mom will certainly be missed but we take great joy in knowing that she has left her pain behind and is now being greeted by those who have gone before her.
Donna B Van Leuven was born to Earsel William and Bertha Stevenson Van Leuven April 4, 1931 in Burley, Cassia County, Idaho. She was the oldest of eight children. Mom’s family lived in several places while she was growing up but all of them were in Cassia and Minidoka counties. She attended high school in Heyburn and was living there when she met her eternal sweetheart, Lawrence Boyd Cardon of View, Idaho. They married on August 19, 1948 in Burley, Idaho and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple on January 24, 1950.
Boyd and Donna farmed throughout their working years. They started out with a small dairy near Burley, Idaho. In 1955 they moved to the Yakima Valley, Washington where they had several farms in Grandview and Prosser. In 1977 they moved to Hood River Oregon where they raised pears and apples. In 1992 they retired and moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, then to Payson, Utah and then after Dad died in 2011, Mom moved back to Spanish Fork to live with her youngest daughter, Melinda and her family. Dad was a hard working farmer but he always had Mother by his side, working just as hard, in everything that they did.
Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in the Primary and Relief Society. She always took great joy in visiting teaching and working in the Primary nursery. She also loved going to the temple and did so as often as she was able. She was an excellent gardener and quilter who loved sharing the fruits of her labors with family, friends and neighbors.
Boyd and Donna have seven children, Michael Lawrence (Christy) of Brigham City, UT; Dennis V of Prescott Valley, AZ; Darrell Boyd of Hood River, OR; Geneal Watts (Steve) of Odell, OR; Wayne Cardon (Martha) of The Dalles, OR; Jolene Cason (Roy) of Coos Bay, OR; and Melinda Palmer (Dwight) of Spanish Fork, UT. They also have been blessed with 30 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carol Dean Hayden, two brothers, Boyd Earsel and Trent Stevenson Van Leuven; two sisters in law, Elizabeth May Cook and Maurine Strout and two daughters in law, Hazel Cardon and Tammy Cardon.
We appreciate the service of the many doctors and nurses who have cared for our mother over the years. We also thank the members of the East Meadows Ward for their caring service.
The Funeral will be held at the East Meadows Ward, located at 1552 East 750 South in Spanish Fork, UT 84660, Saturday, August 20th. There will be a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM and the Funeral will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
