Winifred Greene Dovey, 72, registered nurse, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born October 2, 1924, in Piedmont, Wy, to Benard and Mildred Greene. She was a graduate of Westminster College in Salt Lake City and received her registered nurse degree from Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. She received her master of science degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a B.S. degree in secondary education from Athens College as well as her Certificate of Pediatrics Nurse Practioner. 

Mrs. Dovey was director of nursing at Tri-County District Health Service from 1967-1988, and was a former president of the Alabama Nursing Association. She was a founder of the P.E.O. Chapter Q honorary nursing society and a member of Altrusa International. 

She is survived by her husband, Robert Dovey; two daughters, Patricia Miller of Ooltewah, Tenn, and Barbara DeLisle Reeves of Decatur; one brother, Harry Greene of Fortbridger, Wy; one sister, Marion Jenkins of McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

Funeral for Winifred Greene Dovey, 72, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Nathaniel W. Massey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Don Miller, Will Reeves, Skip Vayda, John Mooneyham, W.M. Almon Jr, and Clarence Rannefeld. 

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Ridout’s Brown Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
