MISSOULA – William H. Cardon died of natural causes in Missoula on Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999.
He was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Ogden, Utah. Raised and educated in Utah, he graduated from Weber College in 1936, Utah State University in 1938 and received a fellowship for his master’s degree at Texas Tech. He went to work for the Soil Conservation Service after receiving his degrees in soil science and agronomy.
In 1940 he met Geraldine H. Gooder in Plentywood and they were married Aug. 27, 1942, in Boise, Idaho. In December 1941 he joined the Navy as a flight instructor. He was released from active duty and retired in the Navy Reserves as a lieutenant commander. He returned to Montana and worked as the district conservationist with the Soil Conservation Service until his retirement in June 1973.
He is survived by his beloved wife Geraldine; sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and B.J. of Del Mar, Calif., and Vern and Bunny of Salt Lake City; brother John of St. George, Utah; two sisters, Carrie Rose of Ogden and Marie Edmison of Sidney, British Columbia; and four grandchildren, Jason, Jaime, Ross and Brad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Eva Marie (Wadsworth), and two brothers, Darrell and Blaine.
Cremation arrangements are with the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel, 3035 S. Russell St. As was his request, no formal service will be held.
