STARR, Warren A. (77) – Retired Professor Emeritus of Wash. State University, Died May 4, 1989, at his Yakima residence. Born, April 6, 1912, Springfield, UT to Alfred and Mary Jane Starr. Raised and educated there. Graduated Utah State, Agricultural College, 1933, BS Degree in Agronomy & Soils, Worked as Soil Scientist for Soil Conservation Service, USDA, Washington, Oregon, Idaho until 1941.

Served in the Philippine Theatre during WW II as an Army Captain and Major. He was captured on Corregidor 1942 and spent nearly four years as Prisoner of War.

Mr. Starr was Assoc. Professor and Professor of Soils at Wash. State University from 1950 until 1975. Member of Joint University Council to the Water Research Center for Wash. State. He did Cooperative Research with USDA in Soil Survey and Conservation. Worked with the Agricultural Research Service of USDA in Soils and Conservation Research. In addition, he did extensive consulting work in Water Rights and Use, and Land Development.

Survived by his wife, Faye Starr, of the residence; two sons, Dr. Warren Dean Starr, Yakima, WA, Alfred Starr, Seattle, WA; daughter, Mary Anne Gass, Pullman, WA; two sisters, Grace Clyde, Brigham UT; Eva Loveridge, Orem, UT; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services, Monday, May 8, 1989, at 11 a.m. KEITH & KEITH TERRACE HEIGHTS CHAPEL, Yakima, WA. Burial, Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
