Vito “Blackie” Catanzariti Resident of Antioch
Vito “Blackie” Catanzariti, age 85, passed away in Antioch on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, surrounded by loved ones. Vito was born May 18, 1924, in Salt Lake City, UT, one of six children of Vito and Mabel Catanzariti.
The 50-year resident of Contra Costa County had previously resided in Pacheco for ten years and recently moved to Antioch. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and had worked as a Produce Manager for the Retail Clerks Union in both Utah and Contra Costa County for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
An accomplished singer, Vito recorded a couple of records covering his favorite artist, Cole Porter. He also enjoyed traveling with and listening to his sons, Randy and Carey’s, band.
A true family man, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and “just taking drives”. Vito will be deeply missed by his loving children, Randy C. Catanzariti (Karen) of Antioch, Carey B. Catanzariti (Linda) of Lincoln, CA, Cardon E. Sullivan (Bobbie) of Antioch, Patricia Ann Whitehead (preceded by Ted) of Salt Lake City, and Daniel G. Sullivan (Marsala) of Salt Lake City; by two sisters, Beth Phillips of Las Vegas, NV and Isabel Catanzariti of Salt Lake City; and by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Zella G. Catanzariti on February 9, 1987; beloved brothers Red and Clarence Catanzariti; beloved sister Mary Knowlden; and great-great-grandson James Vito Catanzariti.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 2011 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord.
