Wife of Wilford Pratt Cardon
Vilate Allen Cardon, passed away August 17, 2003. Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 20, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. in the LDS chapel located at 925 N. Harris, Mesa, AZ. Visitation will begin prior to the funeral at 9:30 A.M. in the same building. Interment will be in the City of Mesa Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
Vilate was born November 20, 1907 in Lehi, Arizona, the fourth of ten children. She married Wilford Pratt Cardon on, June 21, 1932, who predeceased her by thirty-four years. They had six children, Marilyn Calder (Don), Susette Hiatt (Reid), Wilford (Phyllis), Elijah (Marjorie), Kathie Tendler (Terry), and Craig (Debbie). She is survived by two sisters, her six children, and 39 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
The family expresses appreciation to Patti and Jim Jones for the loving care given to Vilate.
Vilate received a teaching certificate from Tempe Normal School (predecessor to ASU), taught school for several years, and was an accomplished violinist. She loved others and had a gift for teaching enduring principles. She served her community of faith for six decades in many responsible leadership capacities. She long enjoyed serving in the LDS Arizona temple where she was honored to serve as assistant matron. She leaves a legacy of strong and abiding faith by which her posterity will be eternally blessed.
