Indiana man admits killing teller, girlfriend
Associated Press
A 23-year-old man captured in a manhunt after the shotgun slaying of a Soda Springs bank teller has admitted to that killing and a previous one in Ohio to his hometown newspaper in Indiana.
In a telephone interview between Timothy Dunlap and the Tribune and Sunday Ledger in New Albany, Ind., he labeled the twin slayings as acts of survival.
Dunlap is in the Bonneville County Jail in Idaho, where he is being held for the slaying of Security State Bank teller Tonya Hunsaker Crane on Oct. 16. He freely admits killing her, saying she “made me mad” during the robbery when she failed to empty her cash drawer and pushed a silent alarm.
Dunlap was captured later that day after a search across Caribou and Bonneville counties. A shotgun and cross bow were found in his car.
Dunlap also contends he killed girlfriend Belinda Bolanos of Hamilton, Ohio, and was paid $2,500 by her former boyfriend.
Dunlap said he left an undisclosed “partner” and headed west.
Dunlap said he looked for an isolated town; Soda Springs matched that description perfectly. He stayed in a hotel adjacent to the bank and watched the institution.
On Oct. 16, he approched Crane and ordered her to hand over her money.
“She pushed some money back in the drawer,” he said. “That made me mad.” Dunlap got even angrier when he saw her push the silent alarm with her foot.
That anger let him to shoot Crane at point-blank range in the stomach.
