Leader Dies 
At Cedar City

Thomas Bartlie Cardon, 39, widely known Cedar City businessman, church and civic leader, died in a local hospital Thursday of cardiac failure following an illness of several weeks.

A native of Logan, Mr. Cardon had resided here since 1934, where he had operated Cardon’s Shoe store. Active in community and church work. Mr. Cardon was a charter member of both the Cedar City and the Utah State Junior Chamber of Commerce and served as second president of the Cedar City group. He was a former president of the Cedar City Lions Club and had served on numerous committees both for the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Since coming here he had worked in LDS Sunday Schools and the YMMIA; and at the time of his death was discussion leader in the Third ward Elder’s Quorum.

Born in Logan on May 7, 1906, he was a son of Bartlie T. and Jennie Murdock Cardon. He attended public school there and served three years on a mission for the LDS church in France and Belgium from 1924 to 1927. He attended Utah State Agricultural College for three years befor entering business.

He married Florence Sutton of Logan in the Logan LDS Temple on May 24, 1929.

Surviving are his father and grandmother, Mrs. Lucy S. Cardon – Logan; his widow; two sons, Thomas B. Jr., and Davis S. Cardon; a daughter, Suzanne Cardon, all of Cedar City; a brother Phil Cardon, Logan; four sisters, Mrs. Joan Vanderhoff Butler, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Gayle Smith, Sugar City, Ida.; Mrs. Annette Carlos and Mrs. Lou Jean Evans, Logan.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Third Ward LDS chapel here Saturday at 2 p.m. by A. W. Whatcott, bishop.

Friends may call at the family residence, 165 North Fifth West St., Saturday from 11 a.m. to time of services.
