Sharon Gilson, beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 17, 1999.

Sharon was born on January 17, 1949 to John and Della Ruff. She graduated from Highland High in 1967. She later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education. 

She married James W. Gilson on May 28, 1971, and celebrated 28 exciting years with him. Sharon was the proud mother of two sons, Nicholas and Christopher.

For the past eight years, she was a kindergarten teacher at Indian Hills Elementary School. Sharon had a love of teaching that extended outside the classroom to all aspects of her life. She shared her husband’s passion for Civil War history and together they attended reenactments in period attire. She also loved Department 56 Christmas collectibles and particularly enjoyed irritating Jim by buying them. 

Sharon spent many glorious days traveling with her family and cherished leisure time with them in Maine, Virginia, and Hawaii.

Sharon was extemely dedicated to her family, which was the focus of her life. She also maintained a strong circle of lifelong friends. All who knew her will miss her dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 21, 1999 at noon at the Monument Park North Stake Center (1320 S. Wasatch Dr.). Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Stake Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Indian Hills School B.O.O.T., P.O.Box 521821, SLC UT 84152-1821.
