2nd-Great-Granddaughter of Philip Cardon and Martha Marie Tourn
Great-Granddaughter of Louis Philip Cardon and Susette Stalé
Granddaughter of Louis Paul Cardon and Edith Jemima Done
Daughter of Mary Cardon and Charles Ira Clouse
Sharlimae Clouse Todd, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully on June 6, 2017 at Heritage Place in Bountiful, Utah of complications associated with aging and dementia at the age of 87.
She was born to Charles Ira Clouse and Mary Cardon Clouse on November 15, 1929 in Miami, Arizona. Sharlimae spent most of her youth in Mesa, Arizona where she excelled as a student and graduated with honors from Mesa High School.
Not long after high school she married Robert Todd (later divorced). Together they had six children. After marriage she lived in: Mesa, Arizona; Pacific Grove, California; Temple City, California; and Arcadia, California, before moving to Bountiful in 1967.
She worked at J.C. Penny’s in Mesa, as the school secretary at Pacific Grove High School in California, and as a secretary, accountant and bookkeeper at Delger Corporation, Bernina Sewing Machines, and Triangle Oil Company in Utah.
She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions within the church. She particularly enjoyed serving at the Bountiful Temple. She supported five of her six children as they served full time missions in Italy (2), Canada, Ecuador and Peru.
Her passions were singing, cooking, and serving her family. She participated in high school choir and was often heard humming and singing as she went about her work in the home. While her cooking generally led to delicious offerings, she also had a penchant for health food which unfortunately was not appreciated as it should have been. She was often up late typing papers and in other ways helping her children pursue academic excellence. Behind every Eagle Scout is a mother who co-earns the award. Sharlimae successfully did this three times. Her door was always open to support her children when they a needed a place to stay, or someone to comfort them. She ensured generational ties by taking her brood to Mesa for Thanksgiving gatherings and reunions, and by taking them to Midway, Utah to take advantage of the “chalet” owned by her brother in-law and his wife. She always made Christmas and other occasions special. In spite of the extra work it would bring her, she brought two German Shepherds home for her children. She made several trips to Mesa to help in the care of her aging parents.
Sharlimae fought depression most her life. In spite of this, she did the best she could to love and care for her family.
Sharlimae is survived by her brothers, Dale Clouse (Dorothy), and Larry Clouse (Joyce); by her sister, Laraine Sutton (Tom); her sister-in law Colene Clouse; her children Charles (Suzanne), Kathy Maio (Sam), Keith (Sue), David (Lois), Marilyn Todd M.D., and Sharon Gorringe. She leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert E. Clouse, and sister-in law, Sharon Schlink Clouse.
The family expresses thanks for the care and service rendered by, Visiting Angels, Heritage Place, Blue Harbor Senior Living, Brighton Hospice, and the Relief Society of the Woodland Hills Ward.
