22 Oct 1924 – 15 Feb 2006
Wife of David Glen Shaw
Long time San Mateo resident, Sally Opal Lane Shaw-Sunderman, passed away on February 15, 2006 after a brief illness, at the age of 81.
Sally was born in Ogden, Utah, the eighth of 14 children, on October 22, 1924. After graduating from Ogden High School in 1942, she married David Glen Shaw, also of Ogden, and moved to California, where her husband served in the Army.
They remained in California after the war ended. She lived in San Mateo from 1950 until 1965, when her family moved to Saratoga.
Mr. Shaw, who was a rehabilitation coordinator at the V.A. Hospital in Palo Alto, and a past president of the Palo Alto Kiwanis Club, died in 1982. Sally retired from Wells Fargo Bank in Cupertino the following year.
In 1985 she married longtime San Mateo resident Fred Sunderman and returned to live in San Mateo until her passing. Mr. Sunderman, a Bethlehem Steel retiree, passed away in 2003.
Mrs. Shaw-Sunderman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was affiliated with Elks Lodge #2091, So.SF. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and traveling. Sally is remembered by those who knew her, even casually, as friendly with a good sense of humor.
She was survived by her daughter, Sally Shaw Stade, of Scotts Valley; her son, David Shaw, of Santa Cruz; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two sisters and a brother.
Friends were invited to attend a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006 at SNEIDER AND SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 977 So. El Camino Real in San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, donations to Peninsula Humane Society or to the Elks National Foundation preferred.
