FARMINGTON –Ruth Cardon Leonard, loving, kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2000.

Born February 14, 1913 in Logan, Utah, daughter of Louis Samuel Cardon and Rebecca Ann Ballard. Married Marvin Prentice Leonard on January 2, 1939, later solemnized in Idaho Falls Temple.Active member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings, including teacher, Primary president, Junior Sunday School coordinator and Ward librarian.

Mother told everyone she had a very happy childhood. She said her father was the kindest man she ever knew. He died when mother was a senior at Logan High School. She earned her way through Utah State Agricultural College, graduating in 1935.

Mother had a special love for babies and children. She taught second and third grades at Farmington Elementary School for 20 years. She said she prayed every day that she wouldn’t do anything to hurt a child.

Member: Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Lady Lions, serving with husband many times as co-chairman of Farmington Fiesta Days. Member Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Chapter.

Survived by son, M. Phillip (Linda) Leonard, Farmington; daughters, Suzanne (Vince) Hess, Judy Pierce, Farmington; Mary Ann (Bruce) Garner, Bountiful; Dr. Rebecca Leonard, Raleigh, North Carolina; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Helen C. Lamb, Hyde Park; and Edna C. Taylor, Logan; brother and sister-in-law, Burnham and Allene Leonard, Farmington; sisters-in-law, Mary L. Onstott, Ogden; Connie Cardon, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, L. Ballard Cardon and Paul B. Cardon; sisters, Margaret C. Hickman, Rebecca C. Peterson, Lucile C. Reading; and son-in-law, Harry C. Pierce.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2000 at the Farmington North Stake Center, 729 West Shepard Lane, Farmington, with Bishop Paul S. Evans conducting. Family and friends are invited to visit the family on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Primary Children’s Medical Center.
