Mother-in-law of Sherie Marie Stephens Johnston

FARR WEST, Utah – Ruby Hunsaker Johnston Blacker, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in Ogden, Utah.
Ruby was born April 5, 1916, in Bothwell, Utah, to John Albert and Martha Ann Priest Hunsaker. She was the fifth of 10 children. She attended Bothwell Elementary and Bear River High School in Garland, Utah.
She married Ray S. Johnston on Sept. 20, 1935, in Brigham City, Utah. Together they had three children, Rachel Ann Bob Garside, Dr. Gregory Mary Johnston and Judy McFarland.
Ray and Ruby owned the Johnston Trucking Co., and Pete’s Cafe. Ray died on Dec. 30, 1970. Ruby continued operating Pete’s Cafe until 1973 at which time she sold the business.
Ruby made and enjoyed many friends during that period of time. Ruby married Earl Blacker on Nov. 2, 1974, in Ogden, Utah. She then moved with Earl to his farm in Rupert, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Earl died May 24, 2000. Upon marrying Earl, she had the honor of raising four of her sister’s six children, Tom Sandy Blacker of Pinedale, Wyo., Ken Janet Blacker of Rupert, Idaho, Jeannine Kelly Peterson of Payson, Utah, Doug Blacker of Heyburn, Idaho, Melanie Richard Park of Los Lunas, N.M., and Greg Jolene Blacker of Rexburg, Idaho. Together the family worked the dairy farm.
They were active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rupert, Idaho 4th Ward. Ruby enjoyed callings as an organist, a primary teacher and stake Relief Society president. She and Earl served a 3 1/2-year mission at the Boise, Idaho Genealogy Library.
Ruby loved to travel; she toured many foreign countries. She thrilled at visiting LDS Temples across the USA. Some of her favorite activities were cooking, family reunions and genealogy research.
She leaves behind many loved ones. Her posterity includes 39 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Devon Irene Hunsaker, Rupert, Idaho, Rulon Edward Hunsaker, Buhl, Idaho, John Albert Nancy Hunsaker, Ogden, Utah; one sister, Martha Ann Darley, Ogden, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Merintha Garner, Rupert, Idaho, and Marie Derald Green, Burley, Idaho; and one brother-in-law, George Louise Blacker, Twin Falls, Idaho.
Preceding her in death were her parents; both husbands; a daughter-in-law, Sherie Johnston; a son-in-law, Gordon F. McFarland; a grandson, Eric Johnston; a sister, Hortense Smith; a sister, Afton Olsen; a sister, MarJean Blacker; a brother, Wendall Hunsaker; and a brother, Dale Hunsaker. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends are invited to call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Interment will be held at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
