SODA SPRINGS – Roland Ricks Allen, 94, of Soda Springs, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Spring Creek Manor.
He was born January 27, 1912, at Logan, Utah, the son of Henry Heber and Reda Ricks Allen. He was raised and educated in Logan and graduated from USAC in 1938.
Roland married Margaret (Marge) Van Dam September 17, 1937, in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a cattle rancher and school teacher.
He was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Second Ward. He served two LDS missions, Northern States and East Central States with his wife. He had also served as Scoutmaster, bishop, in the bishopric, counselor in the stake presidency; he had taught and was active all his life.
Roland taught school; served on the school board; was director of the Cache Valley Cattle Association and president of adult education in St. George, Utah.
He is survived by his wife Margearet (Marge) V. Allen, Soda Springs; one son and one daughter and their spouses, Roland Gordon and Clair Allen, Burley, Idaho, and Carolyn and Heith Hunsaker, Soda Springs. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren: three brothers, and four sisters, Paul Allen, Arizona, Dean llen, Oregon, Preston Allen, Raft River, Idaho, Carma Mineer, Salt Lake City, Utah, Barbara Chambers, Shoshone, Idaho, Louise Witmer, Hanover, Pa., and Eunice Lindblom, St. George, Utah. He was preceded in death by four infant sons, Dale, Keith, Norman and Richard, and sisters, Dorthy Miles, Opal Georgeson, Irene Young and a granddaughter, Tonya Hunsaker Crane.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 21, at 11 a.m. at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, Dec. 20 at Sims Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday at the stake center, located at Third West and Second South from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in Richmond, Utah.
The family suggests donations may be made to the Soda Springs Library, 149 S. Main, Soda Springs, Iaho 83276. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
