Father-in-law of Michael Hollis Parker (3rd great-grandson of Philip and Martha Cardon)
Robert William ”Bob” Barker, 59, died December 11, 1990, of heart failure.
He was born June 21, 1931, in Pleasant View, Utah to Edith Rosetta Marsh and Albert William Barker. He attended Ogden area schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1949. He married LaDonna Taylor, August 17, 1951, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He entered the US Air Force in August 31, 1951. He attended Weber State College and graduated as one of the first classes to graduate from Weber as a state college. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1961. He worked at various places, Swift & Co., State Farm Insurance, Defense Depot of Ogden, and Hill Air Force Base. He worked in the Logistics and Provisioning departments at Hill Air Force Base. He was a supervisor in Provisioning for 39 years, before retiring this summer. He was active in the Syracuse 10th LDS Ward, serving as counselor in the Bishopric; assistant Scout Master, and High Priest group instructor.
Many loved the way he taught the gospel from his heart. He will always be loved for his jovial manner; he was always warm and gracious to all he came in contact with. His hobbies included singing and playing the piano, enjoying the out-of-doors, camping, fishing, teasing the grandchildren and recording movies for his family’s enjoyment.
Survivors include his wife of Syracuse; children, Larry Robert Barker, West Point, Utah; Mrs. Steven Carl (Annette) Peterson, South Jordan; Valerie Bray, Syracuse; Mrs. Michael H. (Shelly) Parker, West Warren, Utah; 10 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Roy (Ruby) Speechly, Mrs. Arthur (Delta) Spendlove, Mrs. Earl (Norma) Charlesworth, Franklin Dee Barker, Carl Leroy Barker, all of Ogden. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the West Point 1st & 3rd Wards, 4383 West 300 North. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State Street, and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
