CASTLEFORD — Delbert Alexander, 74, of Castleford, died Friday, July 6, 1990, at his home of a sudden illness.

He was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Robertson, Wyo., the son of James and Mable Alexander. He moved to Castleford in 1919, attended Willow Dale School and graduated from Castleford High School. He helped homestead the family farm by clearing the sagebrush and later installed the first well for irrigation.

He worked in the grocery business for over 20 years. He married Myra Cornthwaite on Aug. 16, 1936, in Buhl and the marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was a mayor of Castleford and also served on the school board. He was a member of the Castleford Men’s Club, where he received the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award for 1983, and the Auctioneer’s Association. He was also a member of the LDS Church and served as branch president or the Buhl Second Ward for six years. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 37 years and received the Silver Beaver award from that organization.

Surviving are his wife of Castleford; one son, Lonnie Alexander of Buhl; one daughter, Joella Jones of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, John Alexander of Granger, Utah, and Leslie Alexander of Magna, Utah; two sisters, Catherine Anderson of Hagerman and Mable Northup of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Buhl LDS Second and Third Ward Chapel on Fair Street with Bishop Ron Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the West End Cemetery in Buhl.
