Richard Glenn Eyrish died from lung cancer June 22, 2003 in Lakewood. Eyrish was born on April 30, 1930 ,in Gig Harbor to Carl Eyrish and Blanche Callaghan. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars before retiring in 1968 as a First Class Petty Officer in the Seabees. He then went on to careers in long-haul trucking and repairing trucks and buses as a diesel mechanic, and working on fishing ships in positions ranging from captain to cook.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Pat, and survived by two sons, Richard and Jack.
A memorial is set for Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., July 2 at Tahoma National Cemetery before his remains are buried at sea.
