Father-In-Law of Steven Lee Goodman
Richard (Dick) Ross, 69, born in Sacramento, California, raised in Seaside, California, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 after a hard-fought battle with a very rare condition called Amyloidosis. He passed quietly, with his family by his side. We miss him.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Ross.
Dick was known throughout the Peninsula as an astutely successful businessman with fair and forthright common sense. He was driven by a strong work ethic, rock solid values and an uncanny business sense. He was delightfully meticulous and organized.
He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormon faith) and served faithfully as a Bishop and cherished his time serving others in the temple. His church activity brought him great joy. He enjoyed a rare closeness to the Lord as witnessed by us all in his countenance. He also enjoyed serving on the Boy Scouts of America board and council.
During his life, he also poured heart and soul into Ross Roofing for nearly five decades. He remained robustly involved at Ross Roofing even after selling the family business to his son. As a family, we enjoyed his flair for being quite the jack-of-all-trades in construction. He helped build two of the homes that he lived in. We will treasure those memories of being directed and painstakingly “tutored” during the many home improvement projects he helped us with.
He played football at Monterey High School and helped take his team to an undefeated record that won a state championship. He also played ball at Monterey Peninsula College.
Dick was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, giving sage advice, expertly haggling at big ticket purchases, and drooling over classic cars. In 2007 God again blessed Richard with marriage to Grace Chubb and together they enjoyed traveling the world.
One milestone he recently checked off was climbing Yosemite’s Half Dome with the inseparable “Three Amigos” troupe.
When it is all said and done, we can all agree that it was difficult for him to resist debating the merits of the latest conspiracy theory du jour on a wide range of topics. For certain, one was a better person for having known Dick Ross well.
Dick is survived by his lovely wife of five years, Grace Ross; daughters, Shery (Steve) Goodman of Provo, UT, Janey (Jeremy) Cowdrey of Lehi, UT and Kara (Ross) Rowe of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Michael (Becki) Ross of Corral de Tierra; stepson, Jared (Joli) Krueger of American Fork, UT; stepdaughter, Kristin (Michael) Whitt of Rexburg, ID (currently attending college there); sister, Harriet (Doyle) Dickinson of Sacramento; and 15 wonderful grandchildren who love and miss him terribly.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 25, 2013 at 12:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 1024 Noche Buena, Seaside, CA 93955. Burial will be at the Monterey City Cemetery.
