Wyoming Native Ray Swartfager Dies Thursday
Raymond Otis Swartfager, 72, died Thursday morning in a local hospital following a short illness.He was a native of Piedmont, Wyo., and resided in Peterson, Utah, about 15 years prior to moving to California in 1925.
Mr. Swartfager worked at Portola, Plumas County, as a telegraph operator for Western Pacific Railroad from 1938 to 1945, when he moved to Thornton, where he worked as a Western Pacific agent until his death.
For the last three years he resided at 841 S. Lee Ave., Lodi.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Lewis Hawkins and Gale Swartfager, both of Redwood City; and Varcelle Swartfager of Reno, Nev., and two grandchildren.
He was the brother of Brice Swartfager and Vern Swartfager, both of Santa Rosa; and Mrs. Katherine Puck, also of Santa Rosa.
