OGDEN – Raymond Cooper Cardon of Ogden, Utah passed away on September 23, 1995, a beautiful fall day. He left behind a legacy of integrity, accomplishment, and kindness toward others that his family will always emulate.

Born October 6, 1918, in Salt Lake City to Raymond Hinckley Cardon and Laura Cooper Cardon, he spent the majority of his childhood in St. Anthony, Idaho, graduating from high school there in 1936. He then attended Idaho State University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Pharmacology in 1940. While in college, he was a member of Phi Delta Chi fraternity, a national honorary pharmacy organization. He served as Junior Class President, Treasurer of the Pharmacy Organization, on the Student Council and on the Publications Committee.
After relocating to Ogden in 1940, he worked as a pharmacist for H. E. Riley Drugs, Driver Pharmacy, Gordon Drug, Owl Drug, and part time at both Dee and St. Benedict Hospitals, often working three jobs at the same time. He served in the United States Navy in 1944 1945. He then attended Colgate University and University of Southern California for post-graduate work.
He married Jeanne P. Clark on August 26, 1944, in what was to be a life-long union of 51 years.
Upon his return from the service, he founded, along with two other partners, the Prescription Center at 360 24th Street, with tow more stores, Prescription Center North and Prescription Center East, being added later. He served as part owner and general manager of the Prescription Center stores until his retirement. He retired to his favorite hobby, gardening, on September 26, 1980. His reputation as a talented gardener resulted in his serving, in an advisory capacity, on the consumer boards of several national rose comanies.
Ray served as President of the Ogden Duck Club, as director for Rotary, the Weber Club, and Footprinters Association, while also being a member of Ducks Unlimited, The Elks Club, Ogden Logistics, American Legion and the Utah State and Weber County Pharmacy Associations. He was an Elder in the LDS Church.
Although Ray suffered from numerous and serious physical ailments throughout his life, he always fought his way back to health wit rigid determination and a quick wit. That determination and his humor will be deeply missed by his family and his friends. And although his pain tolerance was high, he is now, finally, out of the claws of that pain.
Surviving Ray are his siter Joan Ioset of Reno, Nevada; his widow of Ogden, two daughters and two sons, Nancy R. Watson (Duane) of West Valley; Patti Sue Cardon of Ogden; Randy C. Cardon of Hawaii; Kelly G. Cardon (Catherine-Fhil) of Ogden; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
