October 11, 1991 my oldest daughter, Shannon Elaine Scott was born. Yes she is named after Randy’s sister and our grandmother. Karl and I were poor as church mice and had been given most of our baby supplies. One such item was a car seat. Being our oldest child and the use of car seats being a fairly new law, we were not aware that they expired. We had to have our car seat inspected by nurses before being discharged. When they inspected it Saturday afternoon we were informed that it did not meet safety standards. And to make matters worse we were being discharged Sunday morning. We didn’t have the money and did not know what we were going to do. I prayed. More earnestly than I ever had that Heavenly Father would provide us the car seat. By 10:00 pm Saturday October 12 we still had no answer. Short time later Randy appeared at the door to my hospital room. I had not seen him since the previous December at Grandpa Warners funeral. To this day, I still don’t know how Randy knew I’d had a baby and was in the hospital. I’m not sure how he got in so late after visiting hours. We visited for a bit. He held Shannon. We reminisced about days he would stay with us in Pine Canyon at my mother’s insistence. When he got up to leave he slid an envelope across my bed tray. He said it was for whatever we needed for the baby. Then he slipped out of the darkened room. I never saw Randy alive again. The next time was at his funeral 2 years later after committing suicide. I loved and idolized Randy. He was a special soul. As for what was in the envelope? It was $110.00 cash. 😭😇. He was our angel. Karl was able to stop by a store Sunday morning on his way to pick us up. I hope Randy felt my prayers of gratitude.
