Ralph A. Larson

Ralph A. Larson, 91, passed away March 19, 2016 at his home in North Ogden. He was born April 29, 1924 in Emmett, Gem County, Idaho to Alfred Peter Larson and Edith Blake. He married Donna Ann Byrne August 28, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Ralph’s father’s Forest Service employment moved him to Cedar City, Sugar House and Ogden, Utah.

His childhood interests were pets, telephones, crystal sets and short wave amateur radio (W6STF). He played a clarinet in the Salt Lake City Tribune Band and later at Ogden High School in Ogden. He quit a Tribune Scholarship at Weber College midyear, February 1942 to continue his lifelong interest in radio with Civil Service Schooling. His World War II military service was in Ireland, England, Iran and Hill Field (January 1943 to December 1945).

Ralph’s 37 years of Federal Service time included: air craft radio and radar installation, Hill Field electronics instructor, army signal equipment inspector at Utah General Depot., supervisor of calibration and measurement inspection specialist in Hill Field’s Standards Laboratory (metrology) for 20 years and Weber College night school instructor for four years. Honors he earned include: Hill Field co-suggestor of the year for 1954, and 37 monetary suggestion awards beyond his position responsibilities.

Ralph’s LDS church service included two Weber Heights Stake Missions in Ogden. He distributed LDS literature at the Hill Field Visiting Officer’s Quarters and also took visitors from Hill Field to Salt Lake Temple Square. He officiated at the Ogden LDS Temple for one year.

Ralph ran a fruit orchard in North Ogden for years before developing it as home lots.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 70 years; three sons: Grant (Sarah) Larson of North Ogden; David W. (Evelyn) Larson of Syracuse and Keith D. (Pam) Larson of Ogden; 29 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert (Lori) and sister, Elaine.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m.

Interment at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah.
