Phillip Edmund Cardon, 75, of North Logan, passed away December 6, 2012 after many years dealing with the effects of heart disease and severe diabetes. He passed quietly and comfortably at home in the company of his wife and companion of the last 14 years, Bonna Lue Pack Cardon.
Phil was born July 29, 1937 to Marvin Cardon and Esther Barlow Cardon, in Santa Monica California. Phil spent his childhood and much of his married life living in California in the Santa Monica, Canoga Park and Thousand Oaks areas.
On September 30, 1960, Phil was sealed to Ruth Elizabeth Taylor in the Los Angeles CA LDS temple and together they had seven children. During the early years of their marriage, Phillip served in the US Army National Guard (Company A, 8th Battle group, 3rd Brigade).
In 1980, Phil and Ruth moved their family to Hyde Park UT in fulfillment of a dream to return to the Cache Valley roots of the Cardon family. The family later moved to Logan while Phil returned to studies at Utah State University to fulfill a long-held desire to complete his BS degree. Near the completion of his degree in April 1995, Phil’s wife, Ruth, passed away due to cancer.
While living with his daughter Ann Lusk, Phil met and married Bonna Lue Daniels Pack on 28 Nov, 1998 in the Logan Utah LDS temple. This union was replete with family. Between his seven children and her nine children, Phil and Bonna Lue shared well over 250 progenitors at the time of Phil’s passing. Many of their years together were spent travelling to see baby blessings, baptisms, weddings and a myriad LDS mission farewells and returns.
Phillip was a lifelong, faithful and devoted member of the LDS Church, and served as a full-time missionary in the Southern States Mission, as a seventy, stake mission president, high councilor, bishop’s counselor, and bishop, as well as many years as a Sunday School and early morning seminary teacher. Phil and Bonna Lue served several years together in the Logan LDS temple as ordinance workers.
Phillip will be remembered most for his love of good music and his ability to beautifully sing. His tenor voice is a beloved part of his children’s memories of long road trips, family gatherings and special occasions. Phil shared that love of music with his immediate family and found it a natural part of his connection with the musical Pack family over his years together with them.
Phillip is survived by his current wife, Bonna Lue, his children Grant (Kay Lyn) of North Logan, Stephen (Terri Jo) of Yorba Linda CA, Ann (Scott) Lusk of Sacramento CA, Larry (Alecia) of Springville UT, Tom (Diana) of Kirtland OH, Janette (Larry) Magley of Layton UT, and Phillip Jr. (Luana) of Ogden UT; a younger sister Kathleen VanGorkum of Keizer OR, and brother Howard Cardon of Yorba Linda CA; 33 Cardon grandchildren, six Cardon great-grandchildren, and hundreds of Pack children, grandchildren and great-grand children.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin Jr. and David; his eternal companion, Ruth; grand-daughter, Stacia; and stepson, Dan Pack.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Allen-Hall Mortuary’s North Logan location (420 E 1800 N). The family hosted a viewing at the mortuary on Friday (Dec 14) from 7-9:00 pm, and at the North Logan 5th Ward LDS chapel (2750 N 800 E) on Saturday (Dec 15) from 9-10:30 am. Funeral services, conducted by Bishop Kevin Pack (stepson), followed at the same location at 11:00 am. Interment is at the Logan City Cemetery.
