Paul C. Ricks Sr.

Paul Cardon Ricks Sr., 81, of 2441 Feather River Blvd. died yesterday at Rideout Hospital.

Born in Logan, Utah, he lived here four years and was a retired engineer for the State of California.

He is survived by his wife, Paulina Ricks of San Diego; two sons, Paul Ricks Jr. of Upland and Daivd Ricks of Riverside; one daughter Barbara Cummings of Marysville; and two sisters, Irene Bastow of La Crescenta and Carrie Salvorsen in Utah.

Paul Cardon Ricks, 81, Marysville, Calif., died Dec. 23, 1980, in a Santa Rosa hospital of natural causes.

He was born April 1, 1899, in Logan, a son of Joel and Susette Cardon Ricks. He married Lilas Myrie Gillispie June 17, 1924. They were later divorced. He married Paulina Thompson Nov. 8, 1949, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was educated in Logan City schools and attended Brigham Young College and Utah Agricultural College in Logan. He was a veteran of World War I. In 1922 he enrolled at the University of California in Berkeley to do graduate work in engineering. During his career as an engineer, he worked for the California Division of Water Resources and for the Federal Land Bank. During World War II, he was employed in Panama working on the Panama Canal. He lived in Panama for six years but spent most of his life in San Francisco and Sacramento.

Upon retirement, he moved to Orinda, Calif., and worked as an officiator in the Oakland LDS Temple. He also spent eight years compiling a file on the Ricks family genealogy. At the time of his death, he was a high priest in the LDS Church.

Surviving are his wife of Marysville, three children, Mrs. A. Terry Cummings (Barbara Ann); Paul C. Ricks, and David Joel Ricks both of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene R. Bastow, La Crescenta, Calif., and Carrie R. Salversen, Logan.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Logan City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hall Mortuary one hour prior to services.
