BIOGRAPHY

Patricia Ann McDonald Cardon was born in Gallup, N.M. on March 25, 1934 to parents Glen and Imogene Locke McDonald. “Patsy” was a graduate of Ysleta High School, class of ’52’ where she was a member of the Varsity Choir and Sock and Buskin Club. She attended Texas Western College (now UTEP) where she majored in Radio and Television. She was a runner up in the contest for Flowsheet Queen and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho, honorary radio and television fraternity. Her sorority was Delta Delta Delta. She was a member of the College Players and appeared in productions of “The Crucible”, “Peter Pan” and “Wonderful Town”. She was a member of Texas Western KVOF-TV staff. She also worked briefly as a stewardess for Continental Airlines. She was married in Rome, Italy to Hugh F. Cardon in 1957, where he studied as an operatic tenor.
As an elementary school teacher, Pat taught the majority of her 30 year career at Mesita School in El Paso and specialized as an ESL teacher.
She is survived by her daughter, Ali Cardon and partner, Sean Bracewell, son Hugh (Clutch) Cardon and his wife, Pat, all of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Donaldson of San Diego, California, Charles McDonald of Las Cruces, N.M. and Margaret (Bug) Gaither of Austin, TX; and nieces and nephews, Glen Donaldson, Valerie Lattin, and John Donaldson all of San Diego, California; Guthrie McDonald of Germany; Suzanne Sotelo of Portland, Oregon; Penni Wood of Bastrop; and Jei Gaither of Austin.
Pat loved to cook and entertain friends. She was also a student of Spirituality and devoted herself to the readings of many philosophies of great wisdom, including Christianity, Eastern and Southwestern beliefs. She shared her wisdom and spiritual quest with those close to her and will always remain a true inspiration. After her retirement from teaching in 1991, Pat embarked on developing her artistic talents, creating paintings of her beloved southwest that are remarkable and cherished. She shared her compassionate, joyous and loving spirit with all that knew her.
A private memorial service will be held in Austin, Texas. Contributions may be made in her name to the Arthritis Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
