Norman F. Shutz passed away peacefully Thursday, August 16, 2012, at his home in Carlsbad, Calif.

He was born December 3, 1921 in Burlington, Kansas. After graduating from high school in Albany, Georgia, he joined the US Navy where he spent three years of service in battles in the Pacific during WWII. After the war, Mr. Shultz attended USC, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in Education.

He taught at Gardena High School in Gardena, Calif., for 20 years before becoming a Counselor in Adult Education in Los Angeles. He and his wife moved to Carlsbad in 1986 where they were active in laying the groundwork for the Church of St. Thomas More in Oceanside, Calif.

Mr. Shultz was predeceased in death by his wife of 46 years, Marky; and his son, Trent. He is survived by his daughter, Neimah Ray Moyer of Oceanside, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Keri Haynie and Vicki Savage of Los Angeles.

A public viewing will be held Tues, Aug 28th from 4:30-8pm, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug 29th at the Mission San Luis Rey at 10:30am, followed by the burial at the Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Mr. Shultz has asked that all financial gifts be given to the St. Thomas More building fund.

Norm was a kind and gracious man with a wonderful sense of humor. May he rest in peace.
