Neil R. Cardon, 83, of Ammon, passed away February 15, 2024, at his home due to natural causes.
Neil was born November 6, 1940, in Durango, Colorado. In his childhood, he spent hours playing with siblings and friends along the Animas River. He developed a love for the outdoors. He relished opportunities to go with his brothers to Western movies. As a young man, he learned to work hard, and often quoted his mother, “Inch by inch is a cinch, yard by yard is hard.” He learned discipline as he received many scouting awards, including one that was presented to him by the actor, Jimmy Stewart. Neil was on the wrestling team in high school, and he enjoyed camping and hunting with family and friends.
In elementary school, Neil noticed a girl named Sandra playing in the school yard. He had an impression that she would be an important part of his life. Neil served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina from 1961-1963. His love for the Argentine people and the lessons he learned from his service were life changing. After his mission, he dated Sandra, and they were married in the Manti Temple on February 14, 1964. His devotion and love for Sandra is a foundation for his life.
Neil and Sandra moved to Provo, Utah, to pursue their education at Brigham Young University. Neil was also employed at the BYU Bakery. He especially loved mentoring young people who worked with him in BYU Dining Services. He received many service awards, and eventually became manager of the BYU Cougar Eat.
Neil had a strong testimony of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and His Gospel. His great desire was to be a disciple of Christ. He served in many leadership callings throughout his life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also served missions with Sandra in Uruguay, Mexico City, Peru, and Spanish Fork, Utah. Neil loved the people that he served and those that he associated with throughout his life.
Neil found the greatest joy in his family. Neil and Sandra raised their family in Provo, Utah. His surviving family members include his wife, Sandra Arthur Cardon of Ammon, Idaho; children, Jennifer Cardon of Orem, Utah, Jeffry N. Cardon (Shauna) of Denton, Texas, Carolee Gagnon (Paul) of Pocatello, Idaho, Christian A. Cardon (Natalie) of Lorton, Virginia, Teresa A. Hardy (Justin) of Bastian, Virginia, Thomas E. Cardon (Melissa) of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Angie M. Wright (Jeremy) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; as well as 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and brothers, R. Lavor and Ruland Cardon.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. Cardon and Anna Marie R.; as well as siblings, Loree Morton, Ellen Young, Phillip Cardon, Anita Simmons, and Boyd Cardon.
