Obituary of Moveta Cardon

6 Jun 1912 – 2 Oct 2004

Wife of Robert Philip Cardon

Moveta Lawson Cardon died peacefully in her home in Palm Desert, Calif., on Oct. 2, 2004.

Moveta was born in Salt Lake City on June 6, 1912, the only child of Vincent and Vera Aylette Lawson. From her earliest years, she dedicated her life to dance, training with the famous ballet master Stefano Mascagno and dancing in New York, Chicago and Hollywood.

On March 9, 1941, she married Robert Philip Cardon of Logan, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Phil and Moveta made their home in Logan where Moveta opened her dance studio and brought the world of classical dance to countless young dancers in Cache Valley. For many years Mrs. Cardon and her dancers produced annual Christmas programs in conjunction with the Elks Lodge of Logan. Proceeds from these programs provided funds to needy families throughout the valley, ensuring a happy Christmas to those who would have gone without.

After selling the Cardon Jewelry store and closing Moveta’s dance school, the couple retired to Palm Desert, Calif., where Philip passed away in 1994. Moveta lived the remainder of her life in Palm Desert, actively involved in the LDS church and continuing to study dance well into her 80’s. To the end of her life she maintained close and loving contact with many of her dance students. She had given them her life and they reciprocated with great love and dedication.

Moveta Cardon is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by her sister-in-law, Lou Jean Cardon Evans of Mead, Wash. A graveside service was held at the Midvale City Cemetery on Oct. 11, 2004.
