Logan Matron, 77, Dies at Home of Stroke

LOGAN – Mrs. Mary Sorensen Cardon, 77, wife of John P. Cardon, well-known Logan businessman, died at her home, 264 N. 3rd East, Wednesday morning following a long illness. Mrs. Cardon suffered a second stroke Saturday.

She was born in Logan Sept. 28, 1869, the daughter of Soren and Catherine Anderson Sorensen. She married Mr. Cardon June 17, 1903, i the Logan temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A lover of flowers, Mrs. Cardon for the past 25 years had supplied the Logan fifth L D S ward and the Logan temple with bouquets during the summer season. Many plants were sent from her garden to Idaho and Wyoming.

She was an active L D S church worker, serving as a Sunday school teacher and organist and working in the Relief society in the Logan Fifth L D S ward. For 16 years she had been an officiator in the Logan temple.

Mrs. Cardon is survived by her husband; three sons and two daughters, Ezra B. Cardon, Ogden; Louis Rulon Cardon, Lewiston; James K. Cardon, Tooele; Mrs. Catherine C. Heither, Salmon, Ida.; Mrs. beryl C. Ruchti, Los Angeles, Cal.; two brothers and one sister. Soren and Catherine Sorensen of Logan; George A. Sorensen, Salt Lake City; eight grand-children.

One son, Paul G. Cardon, was killed in action while serving with the armed forces in Germany in 1944.

Funeral arrangements are being made with Kenneth Lindquist mortuary.
