Mary Anne Gass passed away at home in Boise surrounded by her family Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012. She was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Goldendale, Wash., to Warren and Faye Starr. She had two brothers Warren Dean and Alfred Lee.

The family eventually moved to Pullman and Mary Anne graduated from Pullman High School and attended Washington State University. She married Paul Gass, and they had three children Craig, Gary and Brenda. Mary Anne loved staying home and raising her family.

She also worked for Washington State University, first in the Instructional Media Services, then the Department of Chemical Engineering as the departmental secretary and finally in the International Programs Department. She and Paul retired in 1992 and moved to Boise, Idaho, to be near their daughter, Brenda.

Mary Anne took great pride in her family and was very active with her grandchildren, attending their events whenever she could. She loved to travel and sew, especially quilting, and would spend hours making quilts for her family. She also loved to be outside with her hands in the soil working on her flower beds. However, her best times always involved being with her family. She loved her family with a fierce devotion.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; brother Al and sister-in-law Susan; sister-in-law Ione Visick; son Craig and daughter-in-law, Isabelle; son Gary; daughter Brenda; and son-in-law, Joseph Meier; her much loved grandchildren Stephanie Gass, Katie, Carly and Ryan Meier, Paula Gass; and her nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thank you to the staff at the Mountain States Tumor Institute, particularly Dr. Ronald Dorn and his staff and nurses and the nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital fourth floor south. We appreciate the care and love given to her.

A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial will follow at the Pullman Cemetery. Online guest book is at www.kimballfh.com.
