Patient Fair After Kidney Transplant
A 32-year-old Ogden man, who under went a rare kidney transplant operation in Salt Lake City Friday, was reported in “fair” condition today by attendants at the Salt Lake General Hospital.
The patient, Marvin Larson of 573 28th, was reported to be “doing well” considering the nature of the operation, hospital administrator Max McBeth said.
SECOND TRANSPLANT
Mr. Larson is the second person to receive a kidney transplant in a Utah hospital by surgeons from the University of Utah Medical School.
The first successful kidney transplant was performed Jan. 25 on Dean Lamb, 37, of Magna.
Mr. Larson received a kidney from Lloyd James Shipp, 21, who died Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage.
The hospital spokesman said, “From all indications the delicate operation performed on Mr. Larson is a success.”
However, it will be about two weeks before it will definitely be established that his body has accepted or rejected the kidney Mr. McBeth said.
ADMITTED MARCH 11
The patient was admitted to the hospital March 11 in a uremic coma. He had been dependent on an artificial kidney for life saving removal of body waste before the transplant.
Mr. Larson, unmarried, resides with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Larson at the 28th street address.
