CARLSBAD — Marquetta “Marky” Shultz, 67, died at home Friday, July 29, 1994.
She lived in Carlsbad for nine years. A native of Bishop, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Hummel, pioneer horticulturists and hybridizers, and the owners of Hummel’s Exotic Garden in Carlsbad from 1953 to 1978.
She retired as a parent education specialist with the Los Angeles Unified School District. She wrote many of the courses of study and spoke at many seminars and state conferences.
In 1977, she was honored for “excellence in teaching” by the California Council for Adult Education. She was a member of, Alpha Gamma Delta (USC), Quail Botanical Gardens, California Council for Adult Education and St. Thomas More Women’s Guild.
She is survied b her husband, Norman Shultz of Carlsbad; daughter, Melody Hobson of Simi Valley; son, Trent Shutlz of Carlsbad; granddaughters, Keri Jo and Vicki Lee Hobson of Simi Valley; son-in-law, Mark Hobson of Simi Valley; adopted children, Ray and Lee Ann Hruby of Minneapolis; brother-in-law, Roy Shultz of Phoenix; and brother, Edward Hummel of Soquel.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m Wednesday, Aug 3, 1994, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Celebration of Mass and burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 1994, at the San Luis Rey Mission.
The Rev. Robert White of the Church of St. Thomas More will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the St. Thomas More Building Fund or Quail Botanical Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Eternal Hills Mortuary, Oceanside.
