SODA SPRINGS – Margaret Van Dam Allen, 96; of Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs. 

Margaret was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Herbert and Lillieth Ann Smith Van Dam. 

She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then attended University of Utah.

Margaret married Roland Ricks Allen on Sept. 17, 1937, in the Logan LDS Temple. Roland passed away Dec. 17, 2006.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two missions, Northwestern States and a couples’ mission to the East Central States. She had also served as Relief Society president and various other callings.

She also taught high school and elementary school and served as PTA president.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by one son and one daughter, R. Gordon and Clair Allen of Burley, Idaho, and Carolyn and Keith Hunsaker of Soda Springs, Idaho. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, four infant sons, seven brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter, Tonya Hunsaker Crane.

Services will be held Monday, March 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs. The family will meet with friends Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Burial will follow in the city cemetery in Richmond, Utah, at 1:30 p.m.
