Mrs. Magdalene Beus Cardon will be complimented at an open house reception at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George D. Cardon at 2547 Van Buren today between the hours of one and seven, in honor of her 87th birthday anniversary. An invitation to call is extended to all her relatives and friends.
Mrs. Cardon is a native of Piedmont, Italy, and was born July 17, 1853. She came to this country with her father and his family, settling in Ogden in 1856, as L. D. S. converts. She is a daughter of Michael and Marianne Beus, who were among the early Utah Pioneers who crossed the plains with the first handcart company.
She was married to Mr. Cardon in 1870 at which time she moved to Logan and remained there until 1923: when she again moved to Ogden. Mr. Cardon was engaged in the jewelry and hotel business as well as farming while at Logan. He died in 1914.
Mrs. Cardon has been always an active member of the L. D. S. church. She is a member of the Sunday school and Relief society of the Sixteenth ward. She is enjoying excellent health and one of her desires is to take a ride in an airplane, as she states she has ridden in “almost everything else.”
She also states that the secret of a long life is keeping busy. She says her hobbies are “making quilts and washing dishes.”
She is the mother of eight sons and daughters, six of whom are living. They are Hyrum M. Cardon and Amanda C. Ricks, of Benson, Utah; George D. Cardon and Katie C. Jensen of Ogden; Ernest W. Cardon of Salt Lake City, and Violet Walker of Hollywood, Calif.

OGDEN–Mrs. Magdalene Beus Cardon, 90, died Wednesday at 7:25 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Katie C. Jensen, 935 West Twenty-fifth street.
Mrs. Cardon was born July 17, 1853, in Piedmont, Italy, a daughter of Michael and Marion Combe Beus. She came to America as a child of three. She was married to Paul Cardon December 10, 1870, in the Salt Lake L D S Endowment house. Mr. Cardon died in 1914.
Mrs Cardon was active in the L D S church, having worked in the Mutual, Sunday school and Relief society organizations. She had been a Relief society visiting teacher for more than 50 years.
Survivors include the following sons and daughters: Hyrum M. Cardon and Mrs. Amanda C. Ricks, Logan; George D. Cardon and Mrs. Katie C Jensen, Ogden; Ernest W. Cardon, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Violet C. Walker, Hollywood, Cal.; 49 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, 17 of her grandsons being in the armed forces. The following sons and daughters of her husband by another marriage also survive. Mrs. Mary C. Merrill, Preston, Idaho; Mrs. Sally C. Turner, John P. and Joseph E. Cardon, Logan; Mrs. Lucy C. Merrill, Richmond and Moses G. Cardon, Ogden.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Sixteenth L D S ward chapel, West Ogden – by Rudell Willey, bishop.
