He died peacefully on July 25, 2008 in his sleep, at his son’s home in Shadow Hills, Calif. He was born April 19, 1926, in Evanston, to Lester Thomas and Melba Lorraine Guild. He attended school in Piedmont through the eighth grade and graduated from Ogden High School in 1944. During high school he attained the rank of Cadet Captain in the ROTC.

He enlisted in the army shortly after graduation and served in the Pacific theater during WWII. He and the men in his unit served in the Philippine islands until they returned home in 1947.

He married Margaret Ann Rodzinak on August 28, 1948. They made their home first in Piedmont and later in Evanston. He owned and operated Hillcrest Park Chevron on the west end of Evanston for over 20 years and later worked for the Evanston High School in their maintenance department.

He was very active in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, where he served in several capacities including Trustee. He was instrumental in establishing the Fr. Edward Cassidy Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was the founding Grand Knight and held many other offices both at the local and state level including State Deputy for the 1984/5 term. His work with the Knights gave him a great sense of accomplishment throughout the years.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family on the ranch in Piedmont, and supporting his son and later his grandchildren, in their high school athletic pursuits.

He is survived by his three children, Cherrie Ann Romanowski of Visalia, Calif., Leonard Lee Guild of Shadow Hills, and Richard Thomas Guild and his wife of Fort Bridger; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Earl Guild and Lois Christiansen of Piedmont, Joyce Phillips of Evanston; a sister-in-law; and a large extended family.
