“Jack” passed peacefully from this earth with his family by his side on February 4, 2015 at the age of ninety-one.
We know that as he passed from this mortality, he was met by his sweet wife, Donna, and multitudes of family and dear friends. We are so happy for our wonderful father.
Jack was born January 22, 1924, in Salt Lake City to Franklin G. and Nora M. Watson.
He married his eternal companion, Donna Lance, on September 21, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Jack spent his childhood in Park City. A small town in those days centered around mining and ranching. Oh, the stories he would tell of his childhood!
He really enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren how he got to school in the cold, snowy winters with whiskey barrel slats tied to his feet with inner-tubes. He worked extremely hard in his youth and was taught respect of family. It was these early teachings that he carried throughout his life.
Jack was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army. Upon his return home, he attended LDS Business College, receiving a degree in Accounting.
Jack worked hard his whole life. He firmly believed that if you couldn’t fix something yourself it wasn’t worth fixing.
He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. As with all aspects of his life, he gave his all to each of them. There was never an activity his children were involved in that he did not attend or that he was not personally involved with. He provided and loved his family and others, always placing their needs way above his own.
Jack was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, always giving 100 percent. What he enjoyed most was that of Scoutmaster. He created many memories with these young men through many years.
Jack and Donna in their last four years together on this earth served an inner-city mission and as temple workers, loving every minute together.
Jack is survived by his children, John (Hope) Watson, West Haven; Judy (Ken) Hortin, West Jordan; and Janie (Craig) Sessions, Murray; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
We wish to thank all those who cared, visited, and supported dad these last few years, especially Carrington Court Assisted Living, South Jordan, where he was loved and supported by so many caring and loving people he happily called his friends.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray.
A graveside service will be conducted in the Murray City Cemetery (S.W. corner) on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
