Obituary of John Cardon Lamb

John Cardon Lamb 78, succumbed to a short battle of Pancreatic cancer on August 8, 2021, peacefully at home in the loving presence of family.

He is survived by his wife Tonda. Together they have lived in Sandwich, Massachusetts for 10 years and enjoyed every day together. They were blessed with three sons: Jason, Kevin, and Daren. Jason and his wife Megan live in Buena Vista, Virginia and have 5 children: Emily, Devan, Derek, Jacob, and Shawn. Kevin and his wife Kathy live in Saratoga Springs, Utah. They have two daughters: Hannah, and Breanna. Daren and his wife Tammy live in Plainville, Connecticut with their daughter, Jillian. Their 8 grandchildren and one great grandson, with two more on the way, have brought much joy and happiness to their lives.

John was born May 29, 1943, to Frank Earl and Helen Cardon Lamb in Logan, Ut. He was the 5th of 6 children. His sister, Margret is his only remaining sibling. Growing up on his family farm in Hyde Park, UT, John learned how to work hard, a skill that remained with him throughout his life and his discipleship in the gospel.

At 19, John was called to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in South Africa from 1962-1964, which began his lifelong service and unwavering dedication to Christ. After returning from his mission, John married his childhood sweetheart, Tonda Harris on July 23, 1965 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They were happily married for 56 years and have lived in many places. Three years in the Army took them to Heidelberg, Germany. After completing his education and receiving his Bachelor’s degree at Weber State University, they moved to Long Island, New York to work for the IRS and then on to Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation as a construction accountant. From New York his career took him to Connecticut to work for Stone & Webster, and Ensign Bickford. In order to be closer to two of their sons and seven of their grandchildren they moved to Utah in 1998. It was a wonderful time being near their children and grandchildren.

From 2009-2010 John and Tonda were dedicated Senior missionaries for their church in Morristown, NJ. They faithfully served as administrators in the mission office. After completing their mission, they bought a beautiful home in Cape Cod, Sandwich, where they enjoyed “the Magic of Ordinary Days”. They have been blessed with wonderful neighbors, friends and family.

They lived a beautiful life full of adventure and service. Their adventures took them to 46 different countries, including skiing in New Zealand and Chile, which highlighted their life-long motto, “a family that skis together stays together.” Their service led them to church missions worldwide and volunteered at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT, an experience they treasured.

John will be remembered for his kindness, his laugh, his meekness, and his commitment to serving others. His example will live on through his family.

Services will be held on Friday, August 13th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1220 County Road, Cataumet, MA 02534. A viewing will take place from 10:00am-10:45am, followed by a funeral beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 12:45pm. All are welcome.
