J. Bryant Neilsen, 33, of Matteson, Illinois, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1992.
He was born April 9, 1959, in Logan, Utah, the son of C. Reed and Joan Kenner Neilsen. He married Renee Hendrickson December 29, 1982, in the Logan LDS Temple. After receiving his BS (1985) and MS (1986) degree in Chemistry from Brigham Young University, he attended Stanford University. In 1991 he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry.
Bryant moved to Mattheson, Illinois where he was currently a second-year law student at the University of Chicago. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, AAAS, and Sigma Xi. Bryant was an active member of the LDS Church and in 1978 served a mission to Stockholm, Sweden. In addition to his missionary service, he was a supervising teacher of Swedish at the MTC in Provo. His other positions included bishop’s counselor, asst. stake clerk, Elders Quorum president, Young Men’s president, ward clerk, executive secretary and a devoted home teacher.
Bryant will be remembered for his remarkable quest for knowledge, a quick wit, and his eloquent self-expression. He was a valiant husband, father, son and brother to his family, as well as a faithful servant of his religion.
He is survived by his wife; and two sons, Marc Joseph and Stephen Hyrum, of Matteson, Illinois; his parents, of North Logan; and three sisters and their husbands, Jennifer and Alan Clark, Draper; LeAnn and Rick Dixon, Springfield, Oregon; and Kimberli and Kirk Hillyard, Pocatello, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 5, 1992, 11 a.m. in the North Logan 10th Ward Chapel, 1550 East 1900 North, in North Logan, with Bishop Richard B. Bradford conducting. Friends may call Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at Cranney Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, Logan, and at the church Saturday morning one hour prior to services.
