LINFORD JOHN ALBERT 80, passed away on May 2, 2003, at home in Piedmont, surrounded by his beloved family. Loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was born and raised in Oakland, served as a B-24 pilot in England during the Second World War, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in mechanical engineering and founded Linford Air & Refrigeration Co., which he built into a leading California mechanical contracting company.
He was an avid pilot, stalwart backpacker, superb fly-fisherman and longtime member of the Alpine Meadows Volunteer Ski Patrol. He was past president of Oakland Rotary #3, the University of California Berkeley Engineering Alumni Association and the Aircraft Pilots of the Bay Area.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Linford, his children, James Linford, Anne Linford and Nancy Gladstone, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dagma Linford and by his grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Thomas Linford, Benjamin Strevens and Daniel and Fiona Gladstone.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9th at 11 a.m. at the Oakland First Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 4770 Lincoln Avenue in Oakland. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Oakland Rotary #3 Endowment Fund or to the UC Berkeley School of Engineering.
