Together Again

Born June 10 1911, Logan, Cache County, Utah at home. Passed away in her home at Heritage place in Bountiful Utah at the age of 90.

“One of the last great “Ladies” of our time” First daughter of Bartlie Temple and Jennie Murdock Cardon, third of six children.

Joan attended school in Logan, worked at the Cardon Jewelry Store for her father and as a seamstress for local dress store in Logan.

She attended Utah State Agricultural College where she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She also found her love of theater and was in many many productions in the Old Main theater. She was brought back after her graduation and given the opportunity to star in and pick her favorite play, The Merry Wives of Windsor.

She graduated from, Utah State Agricultural College and taught English at Logan Jr. High.

In 1934 She met Jess Kenneth Vanderhoff, a Utah State graduate and football star. They were married on May 25 1935.

She and her husband enjoyed 54 years of life together. He proceeded her in death in 1989.

She traveled, was a Master bridge player, a superb lady golfer and champion of many courses. She loved people and was a great example to all.

She is survived by a sister LuJean Cardon Evans of Spokane Washington., a daughter Gretchen, a son-in-law Ray Baird, two granddaughters, Stephanie and Johanna Rose, and a great grandson Austin Kenneth Baird.

Graveside Services will be Monday at 1 pm in the Logan City Cemetery. Viewing will be 12-12:30 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary.
