Patrolman Howard Jarrett said Power was a passenger in a car eastbound on Norhtern Avenue, driven by Strauderman, 17, of 1004 N. 16th Drive.

SGT. NORMAN COOK said the Strauderman vehicle was struck by a southbound car driven by Joe Pakan, 16, of 17241 N. 16th Place, which witnesses said ran a red light.

Pakan, Strauderman and a passenger in Strauderman’s car, Douglas Lamar Harmon, 23, of 2015 W. Turney, were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition.

In the second accident, Sgt. William Turner said a car northbound on 31st Avenue, driven by Robert Rae Hoagland, 26, of 3442 W. Dahlia, ran a red traffic signal at Bethany Home. Police said it struck a convertible driven by Gerry Lewis Still, 25, of 216 W. First Ave., Scottsdale.

CARDON, sitting next to Still, was killed when he was thrown from the convertible. A second front-seat passenger, John Stanley Karansky, 21 of 333 W. Berridge Lane, also was thrown from the eastbound car and landed about 60 feet away, according to Patrolman Milo Kaufman. Karansky and Still were treated for minor injuries at St. Joesph’s Hospital.

After being struck, Still’s vehicle careened into a westbound compact car driven by Mrs. Alma Jo Essert, 26, of 3253 W. El Camino. She was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in serious condition, and her 3-year-old son, James a passenger in the car, was admitted for observation.

STILL’S vehicle then struck a westbound van driven by Bruce Arthur Smith, 41, of 5023 N. 18th St. Smith did not require hospitalization.

Police cited Hoagland, who was not injured, for failure to yield the right of way at a boulevard stop and for driving while intoxicated.

Police also said Georgine Clancy, 82, of 306 E. Eva died Saturday night as she walked across Dunlap at Third Street. She was struck by a westbound car driven by Don Arthur Bremer, 46, of Tarzana, Calif., officers said. She died several hours later in John C. Lincoln Hospital.
