James Thomas Underwood, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 18, 1996.

He was born February 27, 1905 in Kaysville, the son of George William and Jane Blood Underwood. He married Constance Mary Shaw, May 1, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died May 24, 1987. He was reared and educated in Kaysville and graduated from Davis High School. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan with a degree in business administration. He had lived in Salt Lake City, Pocatello, Idaho for two years and in Ogden since 1940. He was a member of the Jackson Center LDS Ward, where he was a High Priest. He served in three bishoprics in the Ogden 23rd Ward and on the Mt. Ogden Stake High Council for 16 years. He was also a High Priest group leader and Stake Young Men’s president. Mr. Underwood was co-owner of Smith Electric Company and served as a charter member and first president of the Intermountain Electrical Association. He later entered the real estate field and retired after 18 years as a principal broker with an honorary life membership given to him by the Ogden Board of Realtors.His family was the center of his life and he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Surviving are one son and two daughters, Glen Shaw and Lorraine M. Underwood, Bountiful; Marian and Dr. Arthur F. Budge, Ogden; Joyce and Dr. James R. Morehead, Arvada, Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Norma U. Curtis, Ogden. Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jean Sandberg, and one brother, Louis W. Underwood.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
