LOGAN, Utah – Helen Cardon Lamb, 93, of Hyde Park passed away at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, July 5, 2001. She was born Sept. 10, 1907, in Logan, Utah, the 4th of eight children born to Louis S. Cardon and Rebecca Ann Ballard. She graduated from Logan High School and attended Brigham Young College and Utah State Agricultural College. As a young woman, she was employed for five and one-half years by the Logan Board of Education as the secretary for Logan High School and Logan Junior High. She also worked at night at the Capitol Theater.

She married Frank E. Lamb on Nov. 4, 1913, in the Logan Temple and moved to Hyde Park, Utah where she lived until 14 months ago when a fall caused her to move to a nursing home. When Frank died in 1960, she went to work at Hickman Land Title where she worked for the next 37 years. She finally retired when she was 90 years old. She was always active in the LDS Church as a teacher in the auxiliaries, Primary president, stake Young Women’s board, Sunday school secretary, ward typist, publisher of the ward newsletter and visiting teacher. She was also PTA president and held many leadership positions in the DUP organization. She was a correspondent for The Hearld Journal for many years and wrote a history of Hyde Park.

Helen is the mother of six children, grandmother of 25, and great-grandmother of 63. Fifteen of her grandchildren have served as missionaries throughout the world. She helped support each one of these missionaries, both financially and with wonderful letters of encouragement. When her youngest daughter, Lucile, died and left five young children, she helped take care of them. She continued to be a source of guidance, help and comfort, not only to these five grandchildren, but to everyone in her family. Her great-grandchildren thought she was the greatest.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she continued to do things for them until the day of her fall. She never forgot a birthday or any other special day. She also spent many hours quilting or crocheting afghans for her family. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Robert C. (Janice), Logan, Utah, Frank Earl (Ramona) Buena Park, Calif., Margaret (Dean) Elwood, Hyde Park, Utah, John C. (Tonda) Lehi, Utah; one son-in-law, Lynn Elwood, Hyde Park, Utah; one sister, Edna Taylor, Logan; two sisters-in-law, Connie Cardon, Salt Lake City, and Florence L. Ashcroft, Hyde Park; also by her 25 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Phoebe Lamb and Lucile L. Elwood; and by two brothers, Ballard Cardon and Paul Cardon; and four sisters, Margaret C. Hickman, Rebecca C. Peterson, Lucile C. Reading and Ruth C. Leonard.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday in the Hyde Park 3rd Ward 535 E. 200 South, Hyde Park, with Bishop Kent Anderson conducting. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North, North Logan, Utah and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery.

Helen’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all of their kindness and wonderful care over the past year.
