ST. GEORGE – Harry Payne Jones, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in St. George. He was born Feb. 25, 1906, in Colonial Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Fredrick William Jr. and Elnora Payne Jones. He married Florence Cardon on Feb. 25, 1930, in the Mesa, Ariz., LDS Temple.
Harry enjoyed woodworking, and gardening, which he loved to share. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had many church callings, which included three stake missions and one eastern state mission.
Harry is survived by his wife: Florence; five sons: Harry Payne Jones Jr. of Santa Clara, William Bruce (Claudette) Jones of Mesa, Laurence Wendell (Ellen) Jones of Santa Clara, Dan Lincoln (Phyliss) Jones of Pinetop, Ariz., and Steven Loyd (Phyliss) Jones of Snowflake, Ariz.; 28 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; two brothers; Archie (Ada) Jones and Virgil (Nellie) Jones; and two sisters: Amelia McDermid and Myrtle (Donald) Nelson. He was preceded in death by one son: Louis Cardon Jones.
Funeral services will be Thursday Dec. 30, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the Santa Clara LDS 5th Ward Chapel, 3040 W. Santa Clara Drive. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
