Gladys, age 92, of Blanding, Utah, passed quietly into eternity, Monday, July 4, 2005, in Blanding. 

She was born Jan. 23, 1913, to Joseph Elmer and Lucinda Hurst Cardon. She graduated from Kirtland Central High School in 1932. She married Vernon William Jack on Oct. 15, 1932. They left immediately after the wedding to go to Upper Greasewood Trading Post, which marked the beginning of many years of life on the Navajo Reservation. They developed a love for the Navajo people and spent many years in the trading business. Vernon and Gladys enjoyed 51 years of marriage until his death in 1983. 

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Ernest, Eugene, Udell and Lloyd; four sisters, Ella (Goodman), Mildred (Kleinworth), Hazel and Lois (Chalk).

She is survived by her five children, Nadeen (Bob Esmay), Vernadeen (Dan Bates), Alvin (Madeline), Rayburn (Peggy) and Donald (Shirley); 24 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In 1986, Gladys married William Miller of Leeds, Utah, and lived in St. George until his death in 1994. She returned to Blanding to be with family in February, 2004.

Viewing was from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the San Juan Mortuary and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8, at the Blanding West Stake Chapel in Blanding. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, at the Blanding West Stake Chapel.
