MISSOULA – Geraldine Helen Cardon passed away at 2:08 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at St. Patrick Hospital.

Geri was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Plentywood, where she attended elementary school and graduated from high school in 1939. She attended Northern Montana College at Havre and graduated with a two-year teaching certificate in 1941. After graduation she returned to Plentywood and taught elementary school.

She met her future husband, William H. Cardon, in Plentywood, and they were married in Boise, Idaho, on Aug. 27, 1942, en route to his assignment as a naval aviator. She had two sons, William R. Cardon, who resides in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and Vern R. Cardon of Spokane.

After her husband returned from World War II they lived in Hamilton. In 1951 they moved to Missoula where Geri started a 25-year career with the J.C. Penney Co. She retired Feb. 6, 1976, as the office supervisor and worked part time for Missoula Overhead Door. She also volunteered at Community Medical Center and the Missoula Museum of Arts. Geri and William celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8, 1992.

Geri’s husband spent his final six years at the Village Health Care Center and passed away Oct. 24, 1999. During those six years she cared for him daily.

Geri is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Geri loved dogs and went through life with a dog at her side. She always said she never met a dog she didn’t like.

We thank the following people for their love and consideration for our mother: Dr. Sandy Moore who cared for her dog Kiwi (Kiwi was Mom’s best friend); two caregivers, Vicki and Wilma, for their love and care, they truly made a difference in the quality of her life; the staff at the Montana Cancer Center and Dr. Nichols, who helped Mom through her cancer; finally, the staff at St. Patrick Hospital who saw her through her final hours.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are with Livingston, Malletta & Geraghty Funeral Home.
