South Ogden – George E. Kendell, 69, 4040 Liberty, died of a heart ailment Wednesday while bathing in a mineral springs in Box Elder County.

He was born Sept. 14, 1894 in Uintah, a son of Frederick W. and Minnie K. Byrne Kendell. He was married to Mabel Irene Harbertson Nov. 10, 1915, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He developed businesses at Kendell Junction and was formerly on the Uintah Town Board.

He had been high priest in the Ogden Stake, counselor in two bishoprics, former ward clerk and Sunday School Superintendant, a high priest in the South Ogden Stake and was a counselor in the high priest group in the Sixty-fifth Ward and a home teacher at the time of his death.

Surviving are his widow, three sons; Earl H. Kendell and Leonard Kendell of Uintah, Max Kendell, Portland, Ore.; five daughters Mrs. Patrick (Verna) Aaron, Mrs. Wilmer H. (Bernice) Taylor, Roy; Mrs. George W. (Lois) Montgomery, Milpitas, Calif.; and Mrs. Joseph F. (Zelda) Foster, Ogden; Mrs. Ralph (Julia) Coleman, South Weber; 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; Albert F. Kendell, Uintah; Francis R. Kendell, Martinez, Calif.; three sisters Mrs. Norman (Gretta) Anderson, Uintah; Mrs. Cleavy A. (Etta) Fernelius, Ogden, and Mrs. Ralph (Clara) Wright, Uintah.

Funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Chapel of Flowers Mortuary with Bishop Alvin Carter of the Sixty-fifth Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Chapel of Flowers Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to services Monday. Entombment in Aultorest Mausoleum.

George Edward Kendell met and married Mabel Irene Harbertson in 1915. George owned three different stores and built a house just east of the first Kendell store in about 1935. That house was later moved up to the area known as Kendell Junction. George’s son Lenard Kendell and Lenard’s wife, Betty, still live in the house that was once the store. George served on the Uintah Town Board in 1937 and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His parents were Frederick William and Minnie Catherine Byrne Kendell
