L O G A N – Genevieve Porter Johnson, 72, died at her home Sunday, Jan. 10, 1993, after a lingering illness.

She was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Logan, the daughter of Wilford D. and Thomasa Cardon Porter. she married Ralph M. Johnson on Aug. 8, 1940, in the Logan LDS Temple.

She was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School. She attended Utah State University. Later she attended Ohio State University while her husband was on the faculty there. They returned to Utah, and she completed a degree in music at USU.

She lived in various communities throughout the United States during the early years of her marriage. The last 24 years have been spent in Logan.

One of her great loves was music where she served as teacher, composer and performer. She held many civic and church responsibilities including positions in all of the church auxiliary organizations on both the ward and stake levels, and past president of the Logan chapter of the Utah Association of Women. She also did extensive family history research, part of which culminated in the publication of a book on Cardon genealogy. Her greatest joy and position was supporter of her husband, children and grandchildren.

She spent three years as temple matron in the Logan Temple and two years on a proselyting mission to Switzerland with her husband.

Her wit, wisdom and spirituality radiated to all around her until the very end. She will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her husband of North Logan, three children and their spouses, Karen and Warren Babcock, Smithfield; Robert Christian and Lawana Johnson, Sandy, Utah; and Wilford Preece and Karlette Johnson, Millville, Utah; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Larry C. and LaDawn Porter of Provo. Her mother, father and a brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 14, in the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 N. 800 E., N. Logan, with Bishop Glen B. Israelsen conduction. Friends may call from 6-8 Wednesday evening at Cranney Mortuary, 420 E 1890 North, Logan, and again Thursday at church from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.

Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
