Florence Sutton Cardon, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, passed away October 17, 1999 in Cedar City, Utah.

Florence was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1903 in Montpelier, Idaho to David James and Mary Emma Brown Sutton. She was the oldest of nine children. She married Thomas Bartlie Cardon on May 24, 1929 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had three children, Thomas B,. David S., and Suzanne.

Florence and Tom moved to Cedar City from Logan in 1934 and opened Cardon’s Shoes. After Tom’s death in 1946, Florence continued to operate the business until she retired in 1962. She was an excellent businesswoman and loved everyday she was in the store as she associated with the public. She also had excellent secretarial and bookkeeping skills which she used in several offices during her working years.

Florence was an accomplished pianist and organist. She was an avid gardner, knitter, quilter, bridge player, and cook. Many of her happiest times were with her family around the dinner table. She appreciated good literature and could always be found with a book in her hands. That love of literature was evident as she taught the Relief Society literary lessons. Florence valued her friends and was an outstanding example of how to be a good friend.

She is survived by a son, Thomas B. (Mildred) Cardon; and her daughter, Suzanne (J. Clair) Morris; 10 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Florence is also survived by her sisters, Geraldine, Barbara and her brother, Bill. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, David, her parents, sisters, Damaris and Marjorie, and brothers, David, Sherman, and James.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Cedar City 7th Ward. Viewing at Southern Utah Mortuary. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery, Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 2 p.m.
