12 Apr 1925 – 4 Jan 2017
Husband of Roberta Guild
Ernest Rawle Little, 91, of Kaysville died peacefully at his home surrounded by those who loved him, on January 4, 2017.
Ernie was born April 12, 1925 in Morgan, Utah to Ernest Jedediah Little and Lydia Edith Rawle, the youngest of five children and spent his childhood and high school years in the valley he loved. After graduating from high school he joined the Army Air Corps and was chosen as one of the brightest for officer training. Due to the need for troops in Europe this program was discontinued and he was reassigned to the Infantry and shipped out. He was assigned to be a machine gunner in F Company Second Battalion. He landed on Utah Beach, later fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was discharged as a First Sergeant in 1946.
Returning home he was reunited with his sweetheart, Roberta, and spent one semester at BYU. He and Roberta were married on October 31, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple and started their life together making their home in Sunset and then in Kaysville where they raised their family of four daughters.
Ernie continued his education at Henager Business College and later attended the Pacific Coast Banking School. Ernie was a self-taught man and was very knowledgeable in anything he chose to do. He often said he graduated from “the college of hard-knocks”. Ernie began working at The Inland Printing Company but is mostly recognized for his work at Barnes Banking Company and later First Security Bank. He was very friendly and people enjoyed him as “their” banker.
He was active in his community and served on the Kaysville City Council, the Kaysville Jaycees and was a member of Kaysville Rotary Club.
Ernie served his church in many callings including deacon’s quorum advisor, bishop’s counselor, stake high councilman, and stake clerk, a calling he held for many years. He and Roberta served a mission together in the Washington D.C. South Mission.
Ernie was a friend to many, particularly to “Mont,” whom he cared for over many years until his death. This is some of dad’s story and in his words, “Families are forever so this chapter is not finished”.
Ernie is survived by his four daughters, Christine Deppe (Larry), Lorelei Draper (Ron), Denise Hadfield (Steve) and JoAnn McCleskey (David), his big brother, Keith R. Little, 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren of whom he was so proud. He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 600 E. 207 So., Kaysville. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main Street and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
